• Is there a micro.blog theme that will show your bookshelves? (Like, currently reading, want to read, finished, etc.) Apologies, not too familiar with themes … 📚

  • Finished reading: Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen 📚

  • Germinal, work in progress, pencil on paper. Next month’s Jacobin is Theroigne de Mericourt

  • The things you think are the disasters in your life are not the disasters really. Almost anything can be turned around: out of every ditch, a path, if only you can see it.

  • _Ventôse_—watercolor and ink on paper,2026. Note: I will clearly need to circle back and photograph this again…out of alignment, top is dark and out of focus. Back to the drawing board! Well, not really, the drawing is fine! Back to the photo board…

  • I used to think I hated exercise. It turns out, I just hated cardio. Took me 50 years to figure this out. Spent 45 minutes in the gym this morning, squats, bench press, and shoulder press. I don’t know how much crossover there is between lifting and Indy blogging, but there’s at least one! 🏋️

  • Via Kottke, WalkmanLand is a great Web 1.0 style site where you can browse all kinds of Walkmans. My personal favorite was this Sony Walkman I had in college: walkman.land/sony/wm-f…

  • It has been a while, but I’m jumping back into blogging and micro.blog….By way of introduction, here’s what I’m working on: a Revolutionary Calendar (it is Year 234) our Jacobin of the month is Camille Desmoulins: 🎨

  • So, when is this Amazon Lord of the Rings series coming? Is it immanent or years away? I’m unclear…

  • I once owned a 17” PowerBook. It was … too big for a laptop, although the screen was nice, it was like carrying a battleship. The rumored 16” MacBook Pro could be the holy grail if they used the current 15” case with smaller bezels (and the old 2014-era keyboard)

  • “Foldables are the future” seems to be the received conventional wisdom, but are they really? What critical need would they be meeting? I’m just not sure there’s really a huge demand for an iPad you can put in your pocket but I’ve been wrong before

  • I have sold the last of the softcover Machiavellis, and so taking the item off the web site. Time to really get moving on the next thing. Really for real this time!

  • The promise of the artisanal internet: “Eat independent sites, mostly not Facebook”

  • This piece is great: The magical thinking of guys who love logic: ‘People want to feel smart. Calling your opinions and feelings “rational,” as opposed to the “irrational” opinions and feelings of others, is a shortcut to boosting your self-esteem.’

  • Just watched Alien with the boy, it’s great to watch the classics together! Looking forward to Aliens maybe next week. I think Aliens has aged better, but the stunning originality and inventiveness of the first movie can’t be denied

  • Patriots end, at long last, Boston’s three month championship drought!!

  • 🎵 Gotta get up, gotta get out, gotta get home before the morning comes What if I’m late, gotta big date, gotta get home before the sun comes up 🎵

Russian Doll is really good y’all

  • The way Don’t Forget Your Old Shipmate segues into Jack and Stephen playing Corelli in the cabin is so, so well done in that scene

  • There’s a lot to like about the Master & Commander movie adaptation. Its historical accuracy is quite good, and it’s faithful to the spirit of the books. But my favorite part is how it captures the captain’s table: youtu.be/jcsshJ7Gf…

  • Awesome movie night! If I had billions in coffee money, I would not squander it in some narcissistic vanity campaign, but would spend it for the betterment of society, by self-funding a Master & Commander sequel, or series of sequels.

  • Very glad to see Edgar Martinez going into the Hall. It’s much deserved, and it bodes well for David Ortiz’ chances in a few years

  • Paul’s Missionary Journeys: This wonderful interactive map overlays Paul’s journeys onto a view of Roman provinces, settlements, and the all-important road network. It shows the likely paths over land and sea, drawing from the Digital Atlas of the Roman Empire and other research

  • Micro.blog feature request: it would be nice if when pushing a post from WordPress to MB you had the option to include the first few lines (the dek) as well as the title to MB. It’s simple enough to go back and do by hand, but would be a nice option to have.

  • Machiavelli Clearance Sale: Even if you don’t want to buy anything, you can watch me give a TEDx talk on historical graphic novels (embedded in the linked page)

  • Machiavelli Clearance Sale: I have sixteen copies of my Kickstarter special edition of Machiavelli left. They’re signed and numbered, and I’d like to clear them out as I’m starting a new project and want a clean slate. I’ve reduced prices by half to help them move
